2016 Accomplishments

Administrative activities continued as Chair, Department of Behavioral Science, as well as the Bell Alcohol and Addictions Endowed Chair. Teaching included department graduate courses BSC 731 Research Methods & Clinical and Translational Science in addition to mentoring students, fellows, faculty and membership on committees. Publications included 8 journal articles, 6 articles accepted or in press, and 7 presentations.  Served as Principal Investigator for the NIH, NIDA JJ-TRIALS Center Grvant titled Kentucky Trials Juvenile Justice Research Center, Principal Investigator for the Targeted Assessment Program state contract, and Co-I on a state contract and a NIH grant. Federal grant and contract peer review activities included NIH and journals. Served on the editorial board of 2 journals. Membership on university committees included UK’s Internal Advisory Group of the Center for Clinical Translational Science. Bell Chair activities focused on advising the UK Bell Consultation Addiction Service activities and the Addictions Brief Interventionist. International activities included a presentation and short course at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, Porto Alegre, Brazil and a platform presentation at the Thirteenth Congress of Psychiatry of the Association of Psychiatry of Rio Grande do Sul, Bento Goncalves, Brazil.

 

Research Description: 

Dr. Leukefeld is Professor of Behavioral Science, Psychiatry, Oral Health Science, Social Work and Public Health; and Chair of the Department of Behavioral Science, with a graduate appointment in Sociology. He came to the University of Kentucky in 1990 to establish the Center on Drug and Alcohol Research from the National Institute on Drug Abuse where he filled administrative and research positions.  Dr. Leukefeld has published over 200 articles, chapters, books and monographs.  He is a consulting editor for 6 journals.  His research interests include treatment interventions, outcomes, HIV prevention, criminal justice sanctions, health services, and rural populations.
